After the 7th Art and photography, Cannes will be paying tribute to ’Well-Being’ throughout 2009, expanding its range of tourist attractions on this theme. The City of Cannes and its tourism professionals will be introducing new products and services in the fields of health, treatments, leisure activities, sport, gastronomy and entertainment.

Downtown breaks for the well-being of the Body

Highlights will include the opening of Cannes’ sea spa and the range of treatments available in the town’s institutes at any time of the year, for a different type of holiday, for fans of well-being, for the curious, for couples, groups of friends, and businessmen and -women.

‘Cannes from another angle’

July and August 2009 - Festival of Pyrotechnic Art
From the Esterel mountains to the Pointe Croisette, the bay of Cannes forms a jewel case for great events. Cannes wanted to organize for its citizens, as well as for tourists, an international valued event in the very heart of the summer season, where it could take advantage of both : its magnificent natural scenery and its prestige. These shows, given from a 300 meters seafront, in the splendid bay of Cannes, gave a surprising dimension to it. The reflection of the fireworks on the water and the acoustic relief, transported the public into a fairy tale world of successive frames. Around 200 000 persons follow the shows on every evening.

23 to 28 August 2009 - Russian Art Festival
Cannes, a crossroads of so many cultures, has been organizing the Russian Art Festival since 2001. This event, organized jointly by the ‘Fondation de Culture Russe’, the City of Cannes, the Palais des Festivals and the Convention Centre, is supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture.
This Festival provides an opportunity to discover the wealth of Russian culture, history and traditions, and contributes to maintaining the ties of friendship linking the City of Cannes and Russia for over a century.

From 1 November 2009 to 31 March 2010, there will also be ’Cannes, the Club’ weekend specials. Holiday packages incite visitors to enjoy a town that never stands still, that is driven by sensorial pleasures and the body beautiful. But for those who prefer escapism to workouts... Sampling local produce or fine wines? A trip on a sailboat? A game of golf or a cookery class? There’s something for everyone!

For example, during a weekend in November, a visitor can improve their par in a golf competition organised by the Golf Cannes Mandelieu Old Course, sample a ’1er Grand Cru Classé A St Emilion Cheval Blanc 1986’ at La Cave Croisette, enhance their culinary skills with a cookery class organised by the Apprentis Gourmets, and indulge in a warm, soothing, thalasso-caviar anti-ageing treatment with collagen at Infiniment Belle! To round things off, dinner at the Palme d’Or in the Martinez, preceded by ’Les étoiles de ballet 2000’, an International Dance Gala at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. To your diaries!

An ‘Electro’ Festival
Created in 2002, Cannes has developed a new Festival highlighting the international electronic scene. The City of Cannes set a new challenge by organizing this daring event oriented towards new musical trends.
In 2008, the Festival received over 2,500 spectators each night on the Riviera terrace at the Palais des Festivals. Although the Festival puts the spotlight on electro, it also delves into many other music varieties: afrobeat, afro-house, electro-dub, house, electro-pop, hip-hop, reggae, electro-jazz...

Although it has existed for centuries, the city of Cannes developed in the 19th century, when, in 1834, in the footsteps of Lord Henry Brougham & Vaux, the former Chancellor of England and a colony of Lords and Princes settled here in the winter season.
The French writers Chateaubriand, Stendhal and Victor Hugo also stayed here, before the great era of the painters Renoir and later Picasso. ABAC, the Fine Arts Association of Cannes, was founded in 1902, and received State approval in 1935. According to its statutes, ABAC’s purpose is to promote the Fine Arts, extend their development among artists and organize an annual exhibition.
